LONG ISLAND – A Christian radio station apologized on social media Friday after its digital display was apparently hacked with an anti-Trump message that included an obscenity.

Listeners of K-LOVE 96.7 reported seeing the message on the digital display shortly after 8 a.m., with some of them calling News 12 Long Island. A representative for K-LOVE could not immediately be reached Friday.

Some listeners had alerted the station to the incident on Twitter.

A tweet from the station in response to a listener read: “We’re sorry to say our NY signal was hacked ... Our team is working to fix this as soon as possible!”

Another tweet from the station said: “We are definitely working to fix the display as soon as possible! So sorry about this.”

The station’s Facebook page describes K-LOVE as “a nondenominational, nonprofit, listener-supported radio network with over 400 radio signals in 44 states.”

It lists its mission as creating compelling media that inspires and encourages a meaningful relationship with Christ.

Earlier this year, several stations across the country were allegedly hacked to play an uncensored rap song directed at Trump that includes an obscenity in the title. News media report similar incidents have occurred recently at radio stations in South Carolina, Seattle, Louisville and San Angelo, Texas.

According to Scott Todd of K-Love, “EMF’s first RDS units had been provided by an outfit  They had been doing some testing on the one at this station and to communicate with it had installed an unsecured router.  The hack came through that router.”

"RDS" stands for "Radio Data System" and it allows FM broadcasters to send far more than just an analog audio signal out over the air waves. Using a 57 kHz "subcarrier," stations can transmit digital RDS data for reception by RDS-equipped FM tuners. CMW

How to get the elusive reporters list

Native RTL SupportOur business model is different from the other publications. They charge big money for the publication and then give away the list of surveyed stations. This means the important data for promoters is free, while radio stations bear the higher cost, effectively just for the right of reporting. CMW's business model charges radio nothing. Zero. Nada. But we do charge for the reporters list.
