One half of the pioneering rock duo DeGarmo & Key passed away on Sunday night of a ruptured blood clot in his leg after com- plaining of pain and being taken to the hospital. Dana Key was 56.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, his longtime music partner and friend Eddie DeGarmo shares, “Dana was doing good. Just a week ago we played in Asheville, NC at a biker's convention. So this is just an incredible shock that all this happened so quickly.”
Key's life after DeGarmo & Key saw him serve as a record label executive, co-founding ForeFront Records in 1987, along with having a solo music career with two projects. He also helped start up Ardent Records with John Fry in Memphis in 1995.
Beyond his extensive music career that included multiple Grammy and Dove awards, Key founded The Love of Christ Church in 2002 and served as its pastor until his passing. He is survived by his wife Anita and their three children. A memorial service will take place on June 10 at 1pm CT at the TLC Church, just outside of Memphis.
